DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A Jackson man was charged Friday with assault and drug counts stemming from a reported disturbance Thursday. Steven Garrett Brea faces two counts of aggravated assault as well as drug possession charges after police responded to a Walnut Trace home, according to court documents. When police reached the address, they stopped a vehicle leaving the address and were told by the two people inside that Brea had pulled a handgun inside the home and threatened to kill them, according to the affidavit. The pair told police they had escaped through a window, the document states. Police searched the home to perform a welfare check on a child inside the residence and also to look for the weapon. During the search, police found small amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana, an affidavit states. Brea is being held in lieu of a $40,000 bond.
