City temporarily closes road for train derailment cleanup

EAST JACKSON — The city has temporarily closed two lanes of James Buchanan Drive as crews work to clear the area after a Wednesday afternoon train derailment. West Tennessee Railroad will be bringing in heavy equipment to pick up the derailed train cars, according to the city’s engineering department. City Engineer Scott Chandler authorized the temporary closure of two lanes on James Buchanan Drive at the railroad crossing and two lanes at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and James Buchanan Drive until 4 p.m. Thursday.
