JACKSON, Tenn. — It’s like Christmas for math-savvy students and teachers. Every year, March 14, also known as 3-14, resembles the mathematical value of “pi,” the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Students at North Parkway Middle School celebrated “Pi Day” with some circumference-centered craziness by honoring “all things pi.” One student recited as many numbers as he could from the never-ending pie sequence, others sang pie rap songs, and of course, some pies were thrown at local teachers. “We hope that they will always remember the area and circumference and how to find those other circles so when they get out to the real world and have to do math equations like that, they will always remember this day and be reminded of the formulas very quickly,” teacher Rachel Kimmons said. This year’s Pi Day holds extra value — when you spell out Saturday’s date, 3-14-15, you get even more numbers of the never-ending sequence of Pi.
