Friends: Wounded banker a staple in community

HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — After an attempted bank robbery in Humboldt left an employee with multiple gunshot wounds, we focus our attention on her place in the community. From her job at the bank to greeting people during the West Tennessee Strawberry Festival, Janeice Frisbee is well known around the city of Humboldt. After Wednesday’s unthinkable crime, her friends and acquaintances say they are keeping her in their thoughts and prayers. “That’s what small town Humboldt is all about,” Frisbee’s friend Leticia Vailes said. “It’s everyone taking care of everyone and everyone loving everyone.” The Federal Bureau of Investigation said the staple in the Humboldt community was kidnapped at gunpoint on her way to work. Her friends believe she was targeted. “Everyone knew she worked at the bank, and everyone knew she lived near the bank,” Vailes said. “This particular person had to have watched her.” For years, Janeice Frisbee has walked a few feet down the street to work at BancorpSouth. Her customers said she always makes them feel welcome. “When I found out it was Miss Janeice, it was just sad,” customer Ken Harris said. “They didn’t have to do that to her. She’s so sweet. That’s just really sad.” Friends say Frisbee treats everyone like family, even opening up her home during one of the city’s biggest days of the year. “She was a very sweet and kind lady,” Vailes said. “Always opened up her yard during the strawberry festival for whoever wanted to sit there.” Friends describe Frisbee as a selfless person who does anything she can for the city she loves. “I know that to protect her bank and her fellow employees she would do whatever it took for no one to be hurt,” Vailes said. FBI agents say Frisbee currently is in stable condition. Her friends said she suffered a fractured sternum and bullet wounds but is expected to make a full recovery.
