JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson police arrested two people accused of stealing $6,000 worth of lottery tickets from the Food Mart on Old Hickory Boulevard. Officers said the suspects came in around 7 a.m. Wednesday, grabbed two boxes of lottery tickets, then took off. The clerk said it happened in a matter of seconds. “Really, I don’t see much because they do happen quick you know,” the clerk said. “They take the lottery, the whole thing.” Police arrested Amber Riggs and Trimond Epperson. Both appeared in Jackson City Court Thursday on a theft charge. “They got all them lottery tickets back, so it won’t be a theft over $6,000, theft over $1,000,” Epperson said. According to an affidavit, investigators said they found the suspects inside an apartment at a nearby complex. Police said they also recovered lottery tickets inside that residence. The crime surprises some customers. “I don’t even know what to say really,” customer Isaiah Johnson said. “I mean, you gambling by stealing something and you gambling with what you stole.” The clerk said they replaced the stolen tickets. “The lottery brings everything new, now this. You can see it’s new. Everything. New tickets and everything,” she said. The judge set $30,000 bonds for both suspects. Riggs is being held at the Madison County Jail and Epperson is out on bond, according to the jail. Both suspects are scheduled to return to court Thursday, April 2.
