Blue Bell ice cream recall now includes Tenn. supplier

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The recall of a popular ice cream brand is expanding Blue Bell’s recall includes products made at its plant in Broken Arrow, Okla., a supplier for Tennessee. The company announced Friday it was temporarily closing the Broken Arrow plant as the FDA investigates. Banana pudding ice cream pints now are testing positive for the listeria bacteria. The company already has recalled seven other products that also tested positive. In a news release, Blue Bell said healthy people may suffer short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, nausea and abdominal pain but that an infection in pregnant women can cause miscarriages and stillbirths. Young children, frail or elderly people and those with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable, according to the release. The company recommends customers discard the affected products or return them to the store where they bought them for a full refund.
