Charlie Motton

A native Jacksonian, Charlie Motton was born in the Hub City in 1955. He attended school in the public school system, graduating from Jackson Central-Merry in 1973. After graduating from high school, Motton joined the U.S. Army, where he served his country five years. He then attended Jackson State Community College, graduating in 1983, before studying at Lambuth University for two years as a philosophy major and political science minor. Motton began his political career in 1988 with a run for Jackson City Council. He would go on to run for mayor of Jackson in 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2007. In 2006, Motton was a recipient of a Freedom Team Salute certificate of appreciation for outstanding service as a U.S. Army soldier.
