HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — Fire crews responded Friday afternoon to a blaze at the building of a former fast food restaurant. The call went out around 2:47 p.m. for the fire at a building that was formerly a Burger King on Central Avenue. No injuries were reported. It took the Humboldt Fire Department about 15 minutes to get the fire under control. The building is about a 50 percent loss, according to fire officials on scene. They said the building was being remodeled and that the fire broke out as construction workers were working on the roof. “We had a crew working on the building this morning, and I think they were doing some type of roof work and we got a call that it was fully engulfed,” Humboldt Fire Chief Chester Owens said. Resident James Cottrell said businesses like these are needed in Humboldt to help combat a bigger problem. “LIke every other little city, jobs. Other than that it’s a nice place to live,” Cottrell said. There is no word on what caused the fire or what business is expected to open up when repairs are made.
