MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — The Madison County Fire Department paid a final salute Thursday to one of its fallen brothers. Thousands of firemen, friends and family members came out to honor firefighter Chris Blankenship, who died Sunday in the line of duty. A 6-mile-long procession to Highland Memorial Gardens brought out hundreds of supporters to pay their respect to the man who vowed to protect and serve.”This guy was a volunteer, he did it for nothing, except love for his community. Love for the people that live out in that area. I mean that’s a true professional, Jane Waldrop with TEMA said. “I have a son that’s also a firefighter, and I felt like if something like this happened to him I would certainly want people out here supporting him,” supporter Winston Woodard said tearfully. All neighboring counties picked up portions of Madison County dispatch calls so the firefighters could attend the funeral services.
