BROWNSVILLE,Tenn. — A nearly 30-mile police chase ends in Brownsville with police officers using spike strips and a Taser. Michael Doyle, 64, is charged with reckless driving and evading arrest. Lt. Roderick Moore with the Mason Police Department said a reckless driver call was issued for Doyle out of Fayette County when officers in Mason located Doyle. Moore said Doyle was swerving and even appeared to try and run other drivers off the road. Brownsville police made the arrest near the intersection of Highway 70 and the bypass. Residents who live close to the intersection said they were nervous when they first heard about the slow-speed police chase. “I made sure my door was locked, because I usually always keep my door locked in the day time,” Kathy Coulston said. Brownsville police said they had to use spike strips to stop the truck. Officers chased the vehicle in Fayette and Tipton counties too. Eyewitnesses said the truck never seemed to come to a complete stop and counted more than 14 patrol cars surrounding the white Chevy. “I’m just glad they were prepared,” Betty Presley said. Police said Doyle refused to get out of the truck, forcing them to break out a window and apprehend him with a Taser before being able to take him into custody. Officers believe Doyle has psychological issues. Doyle is at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Tipton getting treated for injuries to the left side of his head, according to officers. They do not believe drugs or alcohol contributed to the chase.
