Peabody hires new football coach within hours

TRENTON, Tenn. – Peabody’s defensive coordinator Shane Jacobs never weighed the option of becoming a head football coach. That all changed this week. Jacobs learned on Friday that he would be replacing one of his best friends in the world. “I’m very close with Coach [Ricky] Woods,” Jacobs said. “I never thought about becoming a head coach until [Tim] Haney offered it to me.” Haney, Peabody’s principal, made a quick decision after Woods informed him on Thursday that he will not return as head coach. “My phone was blowing up,” Haney explained. “He [Jacobs] was first in line on staff because he was the defensive coordinator. He’s coordinated a defense for three years that’s won 30 plus games. ” Peabody may have a new face on the sidelines this season, but Jacobs says the program’s agenda is still the same. “Team chemistry was a huge reason why we were successful,” Jacobs added. “Staff is still in tact. Coach Woods deserves a lot of credit for the state championship, but it was the kids and that senior class.” Jacobs takes over a team that won the Class 2A State Championship last season. “We lost a lot of great players. Lost a lot of leadership. We’ll continue to develop and do things similar,” Jones explained. “We didn’t have to outsmart anyone last year. Our focus doesn’t change.”
