Selmer man arrested after car chase in Savannah

SAVANNAH, Tenn. — A man is in custody after allegedly leading Savannah police on a car chase Saturday. Danny Doles, of Selmer, is charged in the chase that took place after an officer attempted to stop a Ford Mustang for the driver’s side brake light being out, according to a report from the Savannah Police Department. Police say the car then ran from them, speeding up and running several stop signs and passing cars at dangerous places during the chase. Officers eventually ended the pursuit for safety reasons. The Mustang was traced to an owner in Booneville, Miss., according to the report. When officers went to the owner’s address, they spoke with Doles’ daughter who told them she and the owner had reported the car stolen by Doles, the report states. On Sunday, police contacted the McNairy County Sheriff’s Office who knew Doles’ last residence to be in Selmer. Officers went to the address and found Doles, who then was taken into custody and turned over to Hardin County deputies. Doles initially told officers he wasn’t in the car and had a witness, but when asked the witness’ last name instead admitted to driving the car and said he had later abandoned it, according to the report. Doles faces numerous charges including felony evading, reckless driving and reckless endangerment, according to the report.
