Local state parks to participate in National Trails Day

JACKSON, Tenn. — Two state parks in West Tennessee are hosting events this weekend as part of a national day for getting outdoors. Pinson Mounds State Park in Madison County and Big Cypress Tree State Park in Weakley County are hosting the activities for the American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day. Big Cypress Tree State Park is hosting a nature walk beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. Park Manager Bill McCall will be guiding the walk, which is open to all ages and is handicap accessible. Pinson Mounds State Park is hosting a hike starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and led by park ranger Amanda Gurganus. They also will have a lesson on ancient tools and weapons at 1 p.m., and at 3 p.m. they will be showing and explaining recycled bird houses. All of these activities are free to the public.
