Univ. of Tennessee looking for resident to restore mansion

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – After months of searching, the University of Tennessee is still looking for someone to lease a historic Knoxville mansion that has fallen into disrepair.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/1AZMwKA) the university system has not received any proposals for how a potential lessee would plan on restoring and caring for the Eugenia Williams mansion and 23-acre waterfront property.

The university system’s Chief Financial Officer Butch Peccolo says the open period for proposals was announced in December and ended in April.

Peccolo says the lease could be up to 100 years and residents could build on the property, but they would also have to take on the expensive task of restoring the mansion.

Peccolo says administrators are currently discussing new ways in which they can find a long-term renter for the property.
