MILAN, Tenn. — The Milan Special School District board held a specially called meeting Tuesday night, during which they accepted the resignation of chairman David Nelson. This action comes days after the board released the superintendent from her contract. At the meeting, members appointed an interim director of schools. By a vote of 4 to 1, with one abstaining, negotiations will begin with Judy McGregor. Board members said they hope this is a step in the right direction. “There is no doubt in my mind that this school system will resume business and continue to excel at the end of it,” said Marty Elliot, board chairman of the Milan Special School District. Officials said interim candidate Judy McGregor has more than 30 years experience and most recently worked as the school improvement specialist in Henry County. The board said it would offer her a 120-day contract as they search for a permanent leader.
