Tractor-trailer catches fire on Interstate 40

EAST JACKSON — Drivers saw a scare Tuesday night on Interstate 40 after a tractor-trailer caught fire. Jackson and Madison County firefighters responded around 10:15 p.m. to the call of a tractor-trailer on fire. The truck was in an eastbound lane near Exit 87. No injuries were reported. According to firefighters, a fire sparked in the back of the trailer. The driver was able to detach the cab and separate it from the burning rig. Roofing materials were in the trailer and caught fire as well. Though it is unclear what caused the fire, firefighters said it could have been due to locked-up brakes.
