Memphis couple charged with abandoning dog in home

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A Memphis couple is charged with leaving a dog locked in a home for nearly a week without food or water.

The Shelby County district attorney’s office said Wednesday that Daniel Moore and Lavona Perry have been indicted on aggravated animal cruelty charges.

Prosecutors say the owner of the rental property told investigators the couple had vacated the home and left behind a pit bull with no food, water, light or ventilation.

Investigators said the dog had been locked in a storage room attached to the rear of the house. Investigators said the dog could barely move and showed signs of severe malnutrition.

The pit bull was treated at an animal hospital and eventually adopted.
