DYERSBUGRG, Tenn. – Over a decade of leadership at Dyersburg came to an end on Tuesday evening. Softball head coach Steve Wilder informed his team that he will be accepting the head coaching position at Coffee County in Manchester. “Hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Wilder said. “These girls gave me this opportunity to go to Coffee County and coach — winning the state tournament in 2014.” Wilder has been in the Trojans dugout since 2004. He originally started out with the baseball team as an assistant. It wasn’t until 2011, he took over the softball team. “It’s hard to tell a group bye,” Wilder added. “We’re close knit. It was tough, but we got through it.” The Lady Trojans finished 23-7 this season. Coach Wilder told his girls that he never thought this would happen. “We went up there [Coffee County] to interview. My wife and I because she was going to do a teaching job as well,” Wilder explained. “They made us feel at home. The school has great facilities. Softball is a major sport up there. It just snowballed. It wasn’t something I planned.”
