Haslam announces members of Governor’s Teacher Cabinet
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Gov. Bill Haslam has announced the Tennessee teachers who will make up a special group he hopes will provide real-time feedback from classrooms.
Haslam said in December that he would create the Governor’s Teacher Cabinet in an effort to improve teacher communication and collaboration.
Directors of schools were asked to nominate one teacher from each of their districts, and 18 classroom teachers were selected from across the state based on criteria that includes focus on student achievement and demonstration of leadership.
Superintendents in Davidson and Hamilton counties, which are among the state’s four largest school districts, did not submit nominees for the cabinet.
Teachers will serve two-year terms on the cabinet. The first meeting is planned for next month.
