‘Neighborhood sweep’ encourages Jackson residents to stay tidy

JACKSON, Tenn. — Some residents were taken by surprise at their homes Thursday — with a friendly reminder about local health and sanitary codes. The Lambuth Area Neighborhood Association partnered with the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department for a “neighborhood sweep.” Their goal? To make sure people stay within health and sanitary codes. Program designers say the surprise sweep is designed to encourage, not punish, the residents they help out. “We want to find long-term solutions and not find ways to punish the residents,” Sylvester Bingham said. “We want to do what we can to help.” Coordinators say the idea of the program is to surprise certain neighbors in Jackson and that they frequently plan “surprise stops” all over the Hub City.
