TOONE, Tenn- The post office in a small Hardeman County town is the pulse of the community. Now residents are upset to learn that hours will be reduced at the town’s only post office. The United States Postal Service is cutting back the hours of the post office in Toone. The town’s population is less than 400, but residents said the change affects many more. “This is not a small post office. This post office covers a lot of areas and a lot of people,” said Sandi Blankenship, a Toone resident and town Alderwoman. “This post office is a major part of this town.” Business owners in the community say the change will also affect their businesses. “I do all of my business here,” said Linda Overton, who owns residential properties in Toone. “The people that pay their rent depend on the post pffice.” Information listed on the U.S. Postal Service’s website says they are cutting the window hours of at least 13,000 of the least used post offices across the country. According to the site, this is a way to address the serious funding shortage.
