JACKSON, Tenn. — Two Tennessee state representatives say after the supreme court’s decision in favor of gay marriage, they want to pass a bill to protect all religious clergy. The bill is intended to protect pastors and other religious practitioners from legal persecution if they refuse to perform same sex marriages, as well as provide legal protection from being forced to perform same sex marriages on church property. Rep. Andy Holt is co-sponsoring the “Pastor Protection Act” and says he has no plans to recognize the court’s ruling as being valid.
