Madison County lawyer suspended

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — A West Tennessee lawyer, formerly of Jackson, was suspended for five years by order of the Tennessee Supreme Court. Gregory Wayne Minton was suspended Friday and also was ordered to pay restitution to five former clients. He also must pay the costs and expenses of the disciplinary action to the Board of Professional Responsibility. The board filed a Petition for Discipline against Minton based on 13 complaints of ethical misconduct, alleging lack of diligence, lack of communication, abandonment of practice, failure to appear in court for several cases, negligence, accepting fees and then failing to provide adequate legal services, contempt of court, misuse of his trust account causing overdrafts in his trust account on multiple occasions, and failure to notify clients of his temporary suspension entered June 14, 2013. Minton entered into a conditional guilty plea, which was approved by a Hearing Panel and the Tennessee Supreme Court for the violations for which he is accused. Minton must comply with the requirements of Tennessee Supreme Court Rules regarding the obligations and responsibilities of a suspended attorney and the procedure for reinstatement.
