Authorities: Woman charged in 2005 death of infant daughter

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities say a Nashville woman has been charged in connection to the 2005 death of her 5-month-old daughter.

Multiple media outlets report police say a reactivated investigation led to Monday’s arrest of 30-year-old Shalonda Weems. Weems has been charged with first-degree felony murder and aggravated child neglect.

Authorities say more than a decade ago, Weems’ daughter, Karma J’Qua Weems, was admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center suffering from extreme malnutrition and dehydration. She died on March 3, 2005.

Shalonda Weems is being held in jail on a $200,000 bond.
