State will open construction site lane closures for holiday weekend

JACKSON, Tenn. — If you plan to take a road trip in the Volunteer State this holiday weekend, you don’t have to worry about lane closures at construction sites on state roadways. The Tennessee Department of Transportation is suspending construction-related lane closures on interstates and state routes from midnight Thursday until 6 a.m. Monday, according to a release from the department. Drivers still may see some long-term lane closures on construction projects. Workers may be on site, and reduced speed limits in work zones will still be in effect. Officials also say there will be increased law enforcement patrols during the Fourth of July weekend and warn against drinking and driving.
