JACKSON, Tenn. — Hundreds of students ready for college are interested in using Gov. Bill Haslam’s Tennessee Promise scholarship, but most of them are missing a certain requirement. School officials say most students are missing their required eight hours of community service. On July 11, Jackson State Community College will offer information along with two events for students to get their hours. “The Tennessee Promise is to make all students aware of their need to give back,” said Bobby Smith, vice president for student services at JSCC. “They will be receiving from the state, the community, and their opportunity to give back.” Tennessee state parks will offer a variety of similar volunteer events on July 18.
