Heartbeat campaign aims to provide life-saving tools for all first responders

JACKSON, Tenn. — A local media outlet is leading the push to make first responders more equipped to respond to heart attacks with life-saving care. The Heartbeat campaign, started by the staff of News/Talk 101.5 WNWS-FM in Jackson, aims to raise enough money to buy defibrillators to equip every police and sheriff patrol car in Madison County. The effort also aims to provide defibrillators for firefighting vehicles that aren’t already equipped. “If we can get this many AEDs [automated external defibrillators] into the community, especially into the hands of qualified first responders, there’s a great chance we can improve the odds for those who have experienced a potentially fatal heart attack,” News/Talk 101.5 general manager Larry Wood states in a release. The station plans to host fundraisers but also hopes the community will join the effort and bring other ideas to the table. For more information, to donate, to participate in a fundraising event or to share an idea to help raise money, contact News/Talk 101.5’s station manager Larry Wood at 731-423-8316.
