Clarksdale out as R&B Hall of Fame location
CLARKSDALE, Miss. (AP) – The Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame project, which was promised to and planned for Clarksdale, is dead.
The Clarksdale Press Register reports (http://bit.ly/1LZReeW ) that the website of organizer LaMont Robinson lists only Detroit and Memphis, Tennessee, as locations.
Local supporters and city officials says Robinson likely didn’t have any financial underwriters.
Last November, Robinson announced the hall of fame would be in Clarksdale. Then in May, he said he planned to have a satellite hall of fame in Clarksdale with the main museum in Detroit.
The City of Clarksdale spent $10,000 on an induction ceremony for the hall of fame in June.
Clarksdale Mayor Bill Luckett says the city could not afford to build the museum and hall of fame for Robinson.
