Shreveport mayor names new public works director

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) – Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler has selected Dwan Gilliom as the city’s next public works director.

The Times reports (http://bit.ly/1dYmlso) Gilliom’s appointment comes after a national search to find the next leader of the 345 member department. As public works director, Gilliom will oversee critical city infrastructure needs through the divisions of streets and drainage, solid waste, permits and inspections, traffic engineering, and fleet services.

Gilliom is a long tenured municipal employee with the city of Memphis, Tennessee.

Gilliom was selected from more than 40 applicants who applied for the position. Pending City Council confirmation, he is expected to start in his new role on Aug. 3.
