JACKSON, Tenn—The Jackson-Madison County School System superintendent addressed transportation issues during the school board meeting Thursday evening. Superintendent Verna Ruffin addressed the concerns of parents about Thursday morning’s problems with the school system’s bus routes. Dr. Ruffin said there have been problems with transportation this year due to the change of six schools start and end times, however she said parents should be able to see improvements immediately. “We recognize that we have some things to correct and we’re working on them, we also know that we need to communicate if buses are getting there or are going to be there late in the mornings or if we have some delays in the afternoon due to driver absenteeism or something,” Dr. Ruffin said. Also at the meeting, school board member George Neely addressed an issue about the school grounds up-keep. Representatives from the landscaping company said that all schools in the system had their grass cut before school started. However, Neely said that was not the case at Nova Elementary. “Talking with the personnel at Nova they said the grass hadn’t been cut since July the 8th. the playground was overgrown with grass it was just kids were trying to play in it,” Neely said. According to the contract, the school system has arranged to have the grass cut twice a month, but according to Neely parents helped clean up the grounds the weekend before school started. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News was unable to reach members of the landscaping company after the meeting, however they said they will check their records concerning the work done at Nova Elementary.
