Report shows road deaths down from last year for Tenn.

NASHVILLE — A new report should give you reason to be extra cautious while driving around. According to a National Safety Council study, nearly 19,000 people lost their lives on the road during the first six months of 2015. Nationally, that’s up 14 percent. Injuries also were up by nearly a third. In Tennessee, road deaths are actually down from this time in 2014. So far, 535 people have died in traffic crashes compared to 589 during the same time last year. This information has yet to tally July and August, two of the historically highest months for traffic fatalities.
