Man dies after being shot by police, falling from overpass
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says a man on a roadway overpass has fallen and died after being shot by an officer.
Media report 22-year-old Steven Dodd was pronounced dead at a hospital early Wednesday after the episode in Hendersonville.
TBI spokesman Josh DeVine said officers responded to the scene around 11 p.m. Tuesday after getting calls reporting a man standing on the outside ledge of the bridge over Vietnam Veterans Parkway. He said police tried to negotiate with the man, but the conversation escalated and Dodd pulled out a gun at which time an officer shot him in the leg. Dodd then fell to the roadway below.
