Pair charged with trying to steal $500 in groceries from Wal-Mart

JACKSON, Tenn. — Two people went before a judge Tuesday on accusations of trying to steal more than $500 worth of groceries from Wal-Mart. Dorothy Coleman and Phillip Beeks both are charged with theft of property over $500 after allegedly trying to steal a shopping cart full of merchandise Monday afternoon from Walmart in north Jackson, according to an affidavit. The store’s loss prevention manager told police he saw Coleman put more than 100 food items in a cart on security video and then pass the cart off to Beeks. Beeks is accused of then trying to leave the front of the store with the merchandise as Coleman waited for him in her vehicle. Both were taken into custody. The judge issued Beeks a $5,000 bond and Coleman a $1,000 bond.
