Man charged with DUI after driving to jail to serve time for prior DUI

HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A man is accused of DUI as well as gun and drug charges after allegedly driving to jail while under the influence — to serve time for a previous DUI. Deputies say they saw Chase Beecham pull into a restricted area outside the Henderson County Jail after swerving and running a stop sign, according to a release from the sheriff’s office. When an officer approached the truck, Beecham was putting in eye drops and there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, the release states. Beecham had driven to the jail to serve time for a prior DUI, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies searched the truck and found a loaded handgun, a .22 caliber rifle, more than 300 rounds of .22 bullets, a pill bottle with what appeared to be marijuana inside and another with Valium, two glass pipes with marijuana residue and a water bong with a green, leafy substance in the bowl, according to the release. Beecham was charged with DUI, possession of a handgun while under the influence, violation of implied consent law, and three drug possession counts. On Monday, it was recommended Beecham also be charged with introduction of contraband to a penal institution for the firearms. Beecham is being held with bond and is set to be arraigned Wednesday.
