Beer Board suspends licenses for 2 Jackson restaurants

JACKSON, Tenn. — Two Jackson restaurants already slapped with a temporary suspension of their liquor licenses by the state went before the city board that controls their beer license. The Jackson Beer Board voted Friday to suspend beer sales for Baudo’s Restaurant and Coyote Blues for ten days after a state investigation found each sold alcohol to minors during an undercover operation. “The Beer Board has worked tremendously hard to make not only he application process but the privilege of selling beer just that — a privilege,” Beer Board Chairman Charles Rahm said. Baudos’ suspension starts Sunday and ends Sept. 15. Owners say they’re taking steps to prevent it from happening again. “We have notices on our point-of-sale system to make sure they check ID,” said Sharon Baudo Smith, owner of Baudo’s. “We have the date posted so they know, and the server that made the error, we will make sure he wears his reading glasses.” Coyote Blue’s suspension starts Tuesday and runs through the 17th. “I just want our customers and the city of Jackson and people that come in to know that we don’t practice serving people that aren’t old enough,” said Jerry Corley, manager at Coyote Blues. The beer board says it hopes this serves as a reminder to other businesses. The restaurants previously were given a 10-day suspension of their liquor licenses by the state Alcoholic Beverage Commission as well. Coyote Blues’ suspension ends on the 8th. Baudo’s starts on Sunday and ends on the 15th.
