If you’re a fan of dramatic high school football finishes, Lexington and North Side may be the best local game to attend in Week 5. The two schools recent history has produced some thrilling outcomes. The Indians defeated the Big Red Tigers 34-33 after a missed extra point in overtime last year. The previous meeting in 2013 was decided in the final minutes as well. “It’s always came down to the last minute in the ball game,” North Side head coach Tab Vowell said. “It’s going to be the same thing again this week.” The difference between Friday’s meeting is both team are now paired in the same region. “It’s an old-time rivalry that’s been reborn,” Lexington head coach Bryant Hollingsowrth said. “Both teams are solid ball clubs and it’s good old fashioned football.” The Indians are undefeated in region play, while the Big Red Tigers already suffered a loss against Hardin County in Week 3. Some Lexington seniors believe a win against the Indians will send a message to others. “Man it was awesome. We was all looking forward to it,” senior lineman Zach Acuff said about last year’s overtime loss. “It’s gotten away from us the last couple of years and we’re looking to make a statement.” “This year we’re going to do our best to execute more,” fellow classmate Mario Pearson said. “We’re focusing on one game. Execute and dominate.” LIVE Coverage from our game of the week between Lexington and North Side begins at 5 p.m. on WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News.
