JACKSON, Tenn. — One local church joined more than 30,000 churches worldwide for Back to Church Sunday. First Cumberland Presbyterian Church held a special service Sunday after almost two months of working in their community to bring more people to the church. Elders who have been planning the service said it was not just about boosting numbers. “I enjoy having new people come and be a part of our local congregation,” said Lynne Marshall, a member of the church’s In-reach Outreach Community. “It just thrills me that people are wanting to know a little more about God and how they can have Christ in their lives.” “We felt it was very important, not just for attendance but for bringing people to Christ,” Kelly Baker, a church elder, said. The elders say they had around 100 people come to the service. In addition to churches in the U.S. participating Sunday, more than 1,500 international churches held special services to reach out in their communities.
