McNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — Deputies are searching for a man they say was involved in a Thursday morning shootout in Ramer over a stolen four-wheeler. Daniel Stanfield is wanted by the McNairy County Sheriff’s Office after fleeing on foot from the scene of the shootout, according to Sheriff Guy Buck. Deputies say no one was injured in the shooting. Stanfield is suspected in a Wednesday stolen four-wheeler incident, according to the sheriff. The owner of the stolen four-wheeler, David White saw Stanfield driving it around 6 a.m.Thursday. “I waited on it to pass, had a high speed chase, come down here and had a shot out on Friendship road,” White said. The two men exchanged at least six rounds of gunfire, Sheriff Buck said. Investigators believe Stanfield fired first. Stanfield then drove about a mile through a soy bean field before wrecking the four-wheeler and fleeing on foot. Sheriff Buck said White will not face any criminal charges since he shot in self-defense and has a license to carry. White said the damaged ATV had to be cut from a tree and sustained about $2,100 in damage. Deputies believe Stanfield may have been injured in the crash. Stanfield is also suspected in other thefts and burglaries in the area, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies say they found bolt cutters and gloves on the wrecked four-wheeler. Deputies say Stanfield has family in the McNairy County area and in Mississippi. As a precaution, Ramer Elementary school was put on light lockdown mode during the early morning hours. Director of schools John Prince said this meant all the exit doors were locked. Prince said the school was put into full lockdown mode between 2:30 p.m and 3 p.m. after reports of a possible sighting of Stanfield in the area.
