JACKSON, Tenn. — Police are asking for help in locating a missing man they say is a person of interest in the death of an apparent homicide victim. Dennis Lee Hurt, 52, was last seen by a family member near the pond at Muse Park wearing a black, short-sleeved T-shirt and blue denim shorts, according to a release from the Jackson Police Department. Hurt reportedly was last seen Wednesday. Police found evidence near the pond at Muse Park that suggested Hurt committed suicide, according to the release. Police say evidence led them to conduct a welfare check at Hurt’s last known address where they found an unidentified woman’s body. “They said they had found a body inside the house, but no one knew what happened or exactly what went on,” resident Dealori Jackson said. Hurt, whose nickname is “Skinny,” is six feet three inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds, according to police. Residents said a man and his girlfriend lived inside of the apartment where the woman was found dead and that they had a history of domestic violence. “Monday I heard a lot of commotion, fussing and glass breaking,” a neighbor who did not want to be identified said. Police did confirm Hurt and the victim did know each other. The woman’s body was sent to Nashville for a forensic autopsy to determine her identify and cause of death, according to police. Police brought a team to Muse Park on Thursday afternoon to make sure the pond was thoroughly searched, the release states. Anyone with information that could be helpful in this case is urged to call the Jackson Police Department at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-TIPS (8477) or by visiting www.jmcrimestoppers.org to place a cyber tip.
