Memphis Teacher Charged With Rape
Police in Memphis have charged a teacher at a private high school with the statutory rape of a youth.
A police affidavit shows 31-year-old Jose Garcia was arrested and jailed early Sunday in the rape of a 15-year-old boy. Garcia is charged with statutory rape by an authority figure. The police report states the boy told investigators he and Garcia had sex several times at school during February 2009, according to The Commercial Appeal. The report doesn’t identify the school or specify whether the youth was one of Garcia’s students.
Shelby County Jail records show Garcia was held Monday morning, pending a court appearance scheduled for later in the day. The records don’t indicate whether inmates have attorneys.
