Shelby Co. Jailer Charged With Rape
Shelby County authorities say a deputy jailer has been charged with raping a female inmate.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says 53-year-old Sgt. Robert Bradshaw was arrested Monday and charged with sexual contact with an inmate, rape and official oppression.
The sheriff’s office says investigators received a letter from an inmate who said that she and several other inmates noticed suspicious activity between a deputy jailer and another inmate. The inmate was questioned, saying the deputy had touched her inappropriately.
Jail records show Bradshaw, a 25-year veteran of the force, has paid a $1,000 bond. Online records show his arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday.
Bradshaw has been relieved of duty pending an investigation. Jail records do not indicate if he has a lawyer.
