Norma Smith avoids dirty looks and snickers by staying at home. Her grandson, Victor James Thompson, 17, was arrested and charged on June 17, in the murder of Charlie Reagan the day before. “I just can’t picture him doing something like that. It never crossed my mind that Victor could do anything like that,” added Smith. Smith said Reagan was a friend to her and would always fix her car even if she did not have the money. Reagan also allowed Thompson to help out around his shop to earn a few extra dollars. “When I got the money, I’d go around and pay him. We had a good relationship. He’s about the only one in Milan that was a friend to me,” added Smith. Smith is torn between the loss of a good friend and her grandson allegedly taking his life. Court documents showed that police found a set of bloody clothes in Thompson’s girlfriend’s car, the night he was arrested. “I denied it. I was angry. It was so many different stages I was going through and I’m still dealing with, mostly because Victor is a big baby to me,” explained Smith. Investigators also said Thompson gave a full confession to the stabbing, in one instance saying when he heard Reagan struggling to breathe, he took off out the back door, hiding a bloody knife in a nearby ditch. Smith said, scared and embarrassed, she supported her grandson in court, Monday. “To see him handcuffed, legs shackled, it was just so hard for me to even sit there court room full of people and police and everything,” Smith added. Smith is depending on prayers to see her family through. District Attorney General Garry Brown said Thompson’s case will be presented to a grand jury Tuesday, July 5. If indicted, he will return to court the following Thursday. Thompson is jailed without bond.
