Tuesday evening, Affordable Housing CDC (AHCDC) hosted its Annual Dinner in downtown Jackson. It marked the last celebration of the agency’s accomplishments after the non-profit agency’s Board of Directors voted to merge with Southwest Tennessee CDC of Henderson. The merger is effective July 1. Affordable Housing CDC has been a part of the Jackson community for nearly 17 years. Its goal was to provide substantial housing assistance in the form of counseling, home ownership opportunities as well as rental opportunities for the low-to-moderate incomes and special needs residents. Formed in 1994, the agency began assisting families with down-payment and closing cost funds and later completed rehabilitation on homes to sale up until 2002 at which time it began housing development activities as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO). To date, an estimated 325 families have been assisted in to home ownership resulting in approximately $21.9 million in real estate sales for Jackson/Madison County and surrounding areas. Fifty homes have been rehabbed or newly constructed since 2002 with an additional two homes expected to be completed and sold by June 30th for new homeowners in Jackson and Humboldt.
