A weekend cookout in Crockett County turned violent, sending one man to jail and a 36-year-old Bells man to an area hospital in critical condition. According to deputies, the victim and John Allen, 34, of Maury City, were at a house in the 800 block of Dupree Road enjoying a cookout, Friday. However, after a day of drinking things turned violent. Friends of the victim said he and Allen got in a fight about an issue stemming back from their history in prison together around 1 a.m. Saturday. After being hit a couple of times, witnesses said Allen went to his car, grabbed a box cutter and attacked. “Most of his wounds were across his face, across the top of his forehead and back of his head,” said Crockett County Sheriff Troy Klyce. “The hospital told us today, somewhere around a thousand stitches total.” “They need God in their life, for real. What is going on,” said a friend of the victim, who did not want to be named. Deputies found Allen a couple blocks away, but struggled to take him into custody. After resisting arrest, officers had to tase him. “He was very combative the entire night,” said Klyce. Klyce said Allen managed to break out the squad car window while in the backseat. He did so much damage to the door, officers had to replace it. “He has been arrested numerous times for aggravated assault, burglaries, domestic assault,” said Klyce . Klyce said Allen’s violent history also traces back to Nashville. While he faces multiple charges for this most recent incident, his most serious charge is aggravated assault. However, investigators said they are going to ask the district attorney’s office to charge Allen with attempted first degree murder in light of the victim’s injuries.
