Some of the area’s most special athletes were given a big league final game of the season, Thursday night. Players from both the youth and adult leagues of Special Needs Athletics took to the field of Pringles Park for their last game of the summer season. With their memories of playing where the pros do, each player received a trophy after the game. Special Needs Athletics founder Michael Richerson talked about what playing at the “Big Chip” means to his players. “The kids and adults just eat it up to be able to play in a big stadium like this, to play under the lights,” he said. “It’s just something special to end the season.” Mackenzie Carpenter is one of the dozens of athletes who played in the weekly games. “It feels good because I get to play like the other players,” she said. Richerson says the league will begin a Miniature Golf League on July 18. Games will take place at Casey Jones Village.
