Oxford Cracking Down On Ugly Yards
Oxford officials are looking for a way to weed out some of the town’s seediest properties.
The city is updating an ordinance that will require property owners to maintain their property in such a way that, even if it doesn’t win yard of the month, at least it’s not causing a threat – such as snakes – to the neighbors.
The board of aldermen will discuss on the issue on July 19.
The Oxford Eagle reports the basic premise of the weed ordinance remains the same: Any property within 200 feet of a public street that has weeds taller than one foot is violating the ordinance.
New to the ordinance is instruction on how to determine if the property is a menace to the public’s health, safety and welfare.
