Foster Kids Get Laptops
Thursday, leaders with the Department of Children Services held their “Celebration of Excellence.” During the event more than a dozen laptop computers were donated to young adults served by DCS. Fifteen teens in foster care, ages 17 to 18, were given their own laptops. The gift was made possible by the statewide Connected Tennessee’s Computer 4 Kids program. Officials say the teens are aging out of the system and were selected based on their exceptional behavior and desire to continue their education. “We have seen children that have achieved four year scholarships and they are so excited that they are going to have a computer to do that,” said Deanna Ward, State Operations Manager for Connected Tennessee. “They are very excited.” The project has given a total of 108 laptops and personal computers to children either in the state’s foster care system or to Boys and Girls Clubs across West Tennessee.
