The Henderson County man charged in the murder of 35-year-old Kevin Pratt appeared before a judge Tuesday morning as more was revealed about what happened the day Pratt lost his life. According to court documents, Pratt came to the home of Christopher Charles Lewis, 23 on July 9 after the two had planned over the phone to meet there. After Pratt arrived, Lewis allegedly struck him across the face with a blunt object, knocking him to the ground. Two days later, Pratt’s body was found a few miles behind Lewis’s house in a wooded area. Pratt’s mother, Brenda Pratt, says Tuesday’s arraignment was the first time she has seen Lewis face to face, and the loss of her son has put a huge burden on her family. “I have three of my grandchildren (who) live with me. He was the man of the house. He took care of everything. We’d tear it up. Kevin would fix it, never complained. Anything we needed, he made sure we had,” said Pratt. Court documents also show that multiple witnesses said, before his arrest, Lewis had told them that if police knew the truth, he would be charged with premeditated murder. Lewis remains jailed in Henderson County in lieu of $250,000 bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on August 3.
