KY Man Survives Lightning Strike

A man and his son have survived being struck by lightning while fishing.

Shad Hinkley’s fishing pole was reduced to strands of fiberglass by the strike Sunday as Hinkley and his 10-year-old son Braedin fished at a friend’s farm pond in Shelby County, east of Louisville.

Shad Hinkley’s friend Gene Wilder told WAVE-TV Hinkley and his son were walking to a truck after a storm approached when the strike occurred.

Wilder said Shad Hinkley was unconscious for a few minutes and then was disoriented.

The boy was released from Kosair Children’s Hospital after observation. The father has now been released from a hospital and is recovering from burns on his hand and a ruptured ear drum.
