Jackson police have identified the man they believe hogtied and robbed an area real estate agent inside a north Jackson home, late Wednesday afternoon. His name is Stephen Davis. Investigators say the 5-foot, 7 inch, 170 pound Jackson man posed as a plumber to lure the woman to the home under the pretense that he was looking to buy a house. The 26-year-old’s last known address was in the 100 block of Lealand Lane in Jackson. He is believed to be driving a 1997 white Dodge Caravan with Tennessee license plate 109 XDZ. Davis is wanted on charges of aggravated kidnapping and robbery. The people who live along Derbyshire Drive said they were stunned to see a crime scene unfold in their neighborhood. “It was just a shock to know that something like that was going on,” said John Taylor, who lives nearby. Neighbors said the home where the attack happened has been for sale for about two months. “When I drove by and saw the police, I called the real estate agent to let her know what was going on. I didn’t know if she knew about what was going on,” said Pamela Cleere who also lives nearby. The real estate agent did not answer her phone because she was right in the midst of the crime. Police said a man posing as a plumber made an appointment with the Realtor. As she began showing the man the home, police said he grabbed her, handcuffed, gagged and hogtied her before forcing her into a closet. “It’s an unusual thing to be happening out here, in this neighborhood. You wouldn’t think things like this would happen on this side of town,” said Kerry Yarborugh, who lives in the neighborhood. The real estate agent was able to free herself only to find her purse and cell phone missing. Still in handcuffs and gagged, she ran to a nearby neighbor for help. “If it can happen in a vacant house it can happen anywhere. That’s pretty much the bottom line to it,” said Yarborugh. Even with all the commotion Wednesday night, some neighbors said they are sure this incident was isolated. “I still feel safe. I’ve lived here a year and it’s the first time something like this has happened,” said Pamela Cleere. If you have seen Davis or know where police can find him, call the Jackson Police Department at (731) 425-8400 or CrimeStoppers at (731) 424-TIPS.
